Public Safety Operations Coordinator
The position is responsible for the planning and scheduling of special events involving the University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD). Special events include sporting events, concerts, public demonstrations and other events requiring overtime staffing by UMPD police personnel. The position will receive information about events from customers, schedule the events in the department’s scheduling software, assign personnel and ensure personnel’s time entries are accurate. In addition, the position is responsible for coordinating the hiring and training of part-time UMPD police officers who staff large scale special events and for maintaining facilities, uniforms and supplies used by the part-time police officers. This position will also utilize asset management software to ensure that all Department of Public Safety assets are tracked. In addition, the position will assist with the planning and acquisition of supplies and services for outreach events and other special events hosted by the UMPD.

40% - Responsible for building out and managing large scale special events (Big 10 Athletics and other special events) and part-time personnel schedules for the Department of Public Safety. This would include the oversight of overtime schedules and calculations that are in compliance with University and DPS policy.
20% - Responsible for partnering and managing relationships with large special event customers to ensure their special event staffing needs are met.
20% - Coordinate the hiring and training of 100 part-time UMPD police officers who staff large scale special events. Maintain facilities, uniforms and supplies used by the part-time police officers.
20% - Assist with the planning and acquisition of supplies and services for outreach events and other special events hosted by the UMPD.
Work Environment
The work is performed on a large, urban university Campus. The position is within the University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD), which is part of the Department of Public Safety. The University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD) is responsible for policing all property owned by the University in the Twin Cities area. UMPD officers provide services in directed, proactive patrol, crime prevention and investigation, law enforcement, and emergency response.
The work location is in the Transportation and Safety Building on the East Bank.
Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS with at least two years-experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal six years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with comparing, verifying and reconciling data to help department achieve overall objectives.
Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and Google applications (GoogleDocs, Mail and Calendar); experience/expertise with spreadsheets and data entry.
Ability to organize and manage complex tasks
Demonstrated attention to detail
Ability to write professional level documents
Independent, self-directed work habits
Experience in special event management or planning
Experience working in a law enforcement agency
Familiarity with the inTime scheduling and time software system
