Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the Orthopedic Technician (OT) will serve patients and assist clinicians of the Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center. The OT will primarily work with Sports Medicine Clinicians and Orthopedists, but may work in other departments within the clinic as needed. The OT will perform specialized patient care tasks, including casting, changing dressings, measuring and fitting of orthopedic braces and other devices and educating patients.

Possession of orthopedic technician certification by either NBCOT or ASOP.
Skill in interacting diplomatically to establish rapport and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, administrators and personnel in other departments.
Skill in prioritizing assignments using independent and cooperative time management strategies without compromising customer service.
Skill in communication theory and application, including interviewing.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English clearly using appropriate medical vocabulary and grammar to: obtain and convey information explain policies, procedures, convey sensitivity, empathy, and respect for patients and co-workers.
Skill and ability to effectively communicate and provide health care information to a diverse student population.
Skill and ability to utilize current technology to provide up-to-date medical care, charting, and communication with students and staff.
Possession of a current CPR certification.
Skill in using a PC and knowledge of software such as MS Office, Word, and Outlook.
Ability to recognize own limitations and defer judgment to others, particularly if questions are clinical in nature.
Working knowledge of patient rights and responsibilities, rules of confidentiality and informed consent, and proper handling of medical records in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA laws and regulations.
Ability to perform duties with sensitivity to subtleties and variables regarding cultural differences, physical comfort zones, and cultural influences.
Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, or hostility.

PLEASE NOTE: Salary is based on years of relevant experience as an orthopedic technician. Work hours may vary between 8:00am-5:00pm and 9:00am-6:00pm based on operational needs in the clinic.
