Position Summary:

The Percussion/Drumline Instructor for the Villanova Band will be responsible for all facets of rehearsals and performances for this section of the band: football game days, basketball (

WBB

and

MBB

), other Athletics events, Villanova University events, and traditional concerts. Candidates must have an in-depth knowledge of marching drumline percussion equipment, drumline technique, repertoire/cadences, writing/arranging parts to fit the needs of the section, and an understanding that the drumline/percussion section includes students of many different ability levels in both reading music and playing drums. Attendance at band camp is expected.

Academic year rehearsals are 4 hours/week (Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6 – 8 pm). Attendance at 5 to 6 home football games, Athletic events, Villanova University events, and at concerts, and other events are components of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The individual is responsible for rehearsing the drumline, assessing musicianship and assigning parts, teaching music, assisting drumline at turf rehearsals, attending weekly evening rehearsals as well as all home football games during the fall season, and attending VU

BAND

Preseason in mid-August.

Candidates should also have knowledge of basic drum repairs and equipment maintenance.

Some attendance at

MBB

and

WBB

games is necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

BM, BS, or BA in Music Performance/Music Education

3+ years of professional work in the field is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Conducting, Performance or Music Education preferred

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

Rehearsal space setup will be required, including but not limited to ability to move & setup chairs, stands, and equipment.

Moving and maintenance of marching percussion equipment, and battery instruments is expected.
