The United States Naval Academy Sports Nutrition Department (Sports Medicine) is seeking two paid Performance Nutrition Interns for a 10-month term beginning in August 2022. These positions are intended for entry level individuals working towards the CSSD pathway. Interns will gain valuable experience working in a Division I collegiate sports nutrition setting. Interns will assist with providing nutrition services to select athletic teams. Duties may include but are not limited to: management of assigned team nutrition needs, delivering team educations, providing individual nutrition counseling, developing educational materials, assisting with game day and travel nutrition, management of assigned fueling stations, monitoring hydration status, analyzing body composition data for student-athletes, and assisting with all daily nutrition operations for 36 varsity sports. The Performance Nutrition Interns will also act as an additional nutrition resource for sport coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, and other staff as needed.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field. Registered Dietitian or RD-eligible through the Commission on Dietetic Registration with expected completion of RD exam within 3 months of employment. Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, ability to work well under pressure in the fast paced environment of Division I Collegiate athletics. Must be able to work a non-standard work week including nights, weekends, and holidays. Intended for entry level individuals working towards the CSSD pathway.
Preferred: Registered Dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Maryland Board of Dietetic Practice licensure. Previous sports nutrition experience or a background in athletics at the collegiate or professional level is a plus but not required.
Note: Entry-level, benefit eligible, full-time 10-month, non-standard work week position with no renewal available. Expected start date of July 9, 2024 and expected end date May 20, 2025.
