Who We Want
The Nutritionist is responsible for executing the Performance Nutrition Program in support of the Director of Performance Nutrition.This position will actively engage and collaborate. This position with work in collaboration with Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Sports Psychology, and other coaching and support staff members to maximize student-athlete performance health, and well-being through the execution of the Texas A&M Performance Nutrition Program.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
One year of full-time experience or two years of part-time, paid, or volunteer experience as a student nutritionist
Required Licenses and Certifications:Registered Dietitian
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's Degree
Registered Dietitian certification with at least one year of experience working in sports as an RD. Any internships and/or volunteer work after obtaining an RD credential (totaling at least one year) can be substituted for work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of sports nutrition counseling
Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
Works cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals in an environment
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: ex. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) U. S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding banned substances
Knowledge of eating disorders/disordered eating signs and symptoms
Ability to analyze body composition assessments and make recommendations on energy requirements
Responsibilities:
Recruiting - Assists in the recruiting process for all assigned sports. Speaks at official and unofficial visits.
Committees - Works as an active member of sports performance teams in collaboration with team physicians, athletic trainers, sports performance coaches, and sports psychology staff to discuss how athlete and team nutrition practices contribute to overall performance.Serves as an active member of an eating disorder committee as it relates to assigned student athletes health and performance. Assists in the design and renovation of athletics food service facilities.
Research/Evaluation - Stays up to date on the latest in peer-reviewed research as it pertains to athletic performance and performance nutrition.Actively communicates and discusses this information with Performance Nutrition, Sports Medicine, and Sports Performance personnel. Evaluates nutritional supplements and diets to enhance performance and translate information about safety and efficacy to student-athletes and Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, and Coaching staff members.
Budget - Operates within Performance Nutrition and assigned sports budget restrictions.Assists the Director of Performance Nutrition in budget development to prioritize student-athlete performance and overall health and well-being. Ensures that University and Department policies are followed regarding receipt of revenue and purchase of goods and services.
Nutrition Education/Counseling - Develops individual and team sport performance nutrition counseling and education programs in collaboration with the Director of Performance Nutrition. Directs cooking demonstrations, team talks, counseling, grocery shopping tours, and other educational opportunities with assigned sports.
Nutrition Operations - Directs all aspects of nutrition, fueling, and recovery with assigned sports.Collaborates with operations staff on all aspects of team nutrition and meals at home and on the road. Manages all aspects of fueling stations for assigned sports including staff, inventory, and execution.
Slocum Nutrition Center - Assists the Director of Performance Nutrition in developing menus, monitoring food quality, consistency, and appearance, collecting guest feedback, and communicating with Slocum staff.Coordinates special events in collaboration with the Director of Performance Nutrition.
Assessment - Performs body composition testing via DXA with assigned teams. Communicate this information with the appropriate sports staff in a performance team setting. Performs hydration testing with assigned teams. Communicates results with athletic training, strength and conditioning, and coaching staff in an effort to reduce student-athlete injuries or cramping.
Clinical - Provides clinical nutrition care for Texas A&M student-athletes. Utilizes clinical assessments including physical exams, laboratory testing, and physician diagnosis to work with the sports medicine team to treat patients with medical issues that require clinical nutrition care. Maintains knowledge of special diets, allergies, and intolerances and communicates this information with the sports medicine team and student-athletes to allow them to meet unique needs to compete at a high level as a Division I student-athlete.
Compliance - Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athletes such as conduct, appearance, road games, punctuality, and other areas as deemed appropriate.
Supervision - Assists in the hiring, delegation of responsibilities, and scheduling of the student workforce.Directly manages students working assigned sports to execute performance nutrition programs and operations.Performs other duties as assigned.
