Experience performing other facilities maintenance work including basic carpentry, HVAC, electrical and/or general mechanical services.
The ISU Athletics Department is seeking Pipefitter applicants to join their facilities team who can apply knowledge and skill at the journey level to install and repair piping, fixtures, appliances and appurtenances related to steam, water and drainage systems, and performs other duties related to incidental thereto.
Responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of maintenance, installation, operations and modifications. Will utilize special tools, equipment, and processes to collect, perform initial diagnostics, and respond to data through established guidelines for preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure reliability. Must interact with FP&M and contractors on projects and will provide recommendations to the Athletics Department on plumbing projects to out-source.
Additionally, this position will perform various general facility maintenance work requests to support the department as needed. Team members work in a cross-functional role and must be willing to adapt to changing projects in order to meet priorities within the department. All team members are responsible for adhering to the rules and regulations of the department, University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA.
Primary Work Schedule : Monday – Friday, approximately 7:30 am – 4:00pm (some flexibility setting start/end time).
This position will serve on-call approximately one week per month for general facilities calls and occasionally serve as a facility technician during assigned home games which occur on evenings or weekends.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
• Performs all duties listed under Plumber.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains centralized water systems (reverse osmosis, deionized water systems, and chilled and heating water systems).
• Installs and repairs piping systems (low and medium pressure steam, acid waste, glycol, storm water, vacuum piping, fuel gas, condensate, and fused piping systems).
• Installs, repairs, and maintains programmable water heaters, digital mixing valves, air lines/pneumatic control valves, radiators, convectors, autoclaves.
• Installs humidification and filtering equipment, heating and cooling coils, traps and, gas unit heaters, radiant heating, fan coil units, , air compressors, air dyers and associated non-automated controls, chiller tube bundles, heat exchangers, and emerging technology on equipment and systems.
• Operates Building Automation Systems, sewer snakes/cameras, thermal imaging tools, hydronic flow rate calculations, and threading pipe.
• Reads and interprets schematics, diagrams, and specifications.
• Performs general sheet metal work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the pipefitting trade.
• Knowledge of welding techniques and equipment.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Knowledge of applicable building code requirements.
• Ability to plan and perform work involving the installation, modification, and repair of new and existing piping systems.
• Awareness of controls and electrical systems.
