The Reading Specialist will be responsible for a caseload of academically at-risk student-athletes at the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes (CCACSA), and will help provide the support necessary to assist student-athletes in reaching their full potential. The CCACSA Reading Specialist will meet weekly their caseload students to help facilitate skill-building and equip their students to handle college level reading. They will work in conjunction with the Manager of Student Learning and the Educational Support Services team to provide the necessary support and guidance for students in their charge. The CCASCA employee will complete assessments and compile semester and yearly documentation to assess the growth of the program. All employees are expected to comply with all CCACSA, LSU, SEC, and NCAA rules and regulations. This position will report to the assigned Learning Specialist within Educational Support Services. The Reading Specialist position is a part-time appointment for a period of nine months - August 1, 2024 through May 31st, 2025. The position will be paid a competitive hourly rate (based on degree attainment) for time worked, up to 20 hours per week.
Job Duties:
Work one-on-one with student-athletes on assigned caseload or in small groups to build fundamental reading skills using direct instruction methods & appropriate learning strategies. Assist in selecting appropriate materials utilized in sessions to help strengthen vocabulary and reading comprehension.
Design and implement a variety of in-session learning activities and strategies to help foster reading development and growth. Conducting assessments to determine skill level at program onset and assessing reading progress during the program. Provide accurate and timely communication and reports to learning specialist and academic advising staff members. Complete all mandatory staff and campus trainings including but not limited to NCAA compliance, Title IX, and Ethics. Maintain confidentiality and provide professional level support to student-athletes in accordance with the regulations of LSU, the SEC, the NCAA, FERPA, and ADA. Minimum Qualifications:
Education Level- Bachelor's Degree
Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience with preferred experience as a: Reading Interventionist, Reading Specialist, or ESL teacher

Preferred Qualifications:
Education Level- Master's Degree in Education, Special Education, or Educational Psychology
