Job Description

Recruiting Specialist

The Recruiting Specialist oversees and directly participates in all aspects of the football recruiting operation. He/she makes the initial decision on all prospective recruits, determines the appropriate response, and makes follow-up recommendations to the Assistant Athletic Director. The Recruiting Specialist implements all recruiting functions and visits by prospective student-athletes. On recruiting weekends, he/she is responsible for booking function space, creating menus, and coordinating all travel and lodging for each recruit and their families in order to meet the recruit’s individual needs. For all official visits, the Recruiting Specialist works with Learning Resources for Student-Athletes and Deans of various schools on campus to set up interviews with appropriate faculty and staff which match the individual student’s academic interests. In his/her role as “goodwill ambassador” for the football program, he/she ensures that each prospect sees all of the resources that Boston College has to offer. This position serves a key role in making an initial positive impression of the Boston College football program. The Recruiting Specialist is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of major recruiting functions such as Junior Day, Signing Day, and various recruiting and game weekends. The incumbent assists with on-site operations during away contests, including bowl travel and community outreach programs involving Boston College student-athletes. He/she is actively involved in the development and implementation of programs related to the Boston College Football Camp, including the operation and management of camp activities during the summer months. Based on his/her knowledge of the recruiting software, the Recruiting Specialist ensures that the recruiting database is properly maintained and provides the data required for decision-making by the coaching staff. This position monitors each incoming student-athlete to make certain that all necessary requirements are known and met including Boston College medical issues, Sports Medicine / Athletic Training physicals, and the NCAA Clearinghouse. In addition to all official, non-official / recruiting functions, the Recruiting Specialist coordinates the May recruiting calendar based on input from each coach. The Recruiting Specialist is responsible for the supervision of volunteer workers, paid work-study students, and the Graduate Assistant for Recruiting. As well as the recruiting aspects of the position, this role takes on responsibility working with the Boston College Football Team and their community service efforts throughout the Greater Boston area. The Recruiting Specialist must be able to have a working relationship with entire football staff, members of the Learning Resources for Student Athletes, the Athletic Compliance staff, the Athletic Business Office, and the Office of the Athletic Director.
