The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Athletics Scholar-Athlete Development & Eligibility Advisor. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students, earned recognition as one of the world’s premier research universities, and is ranked as one of the top-10 public universities in the nation.

Under direction of the Executive Sr. Associate AD - Scholar-Athlete Success, the incumbent is responsible for a comprehensive NCAA academic eligibility advising of scholar-athletes and student-athlete development program. The incumbent works closely with Athletic Directors and Coaches and the Faculty Athletics Representative Athletics Compliance & the NCAA Certifying Officer in the Registrar's Office. Responsible for understanding and applying NCAA rules to all assigned tasks. The incumbent will follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. Acts as the primary resource person for a designated cohort of scholar-athletes for all issues related to the management of academic eligibility and advisement of student-athletes and coordinates with & refers to Department & College advisors as needed. Provide advisement and mentorship support to incoming and continuing scholar-athletes enrolled in the Triton Success Program. Assists Athletics Compliance with developing and implementing compliance education plan focused on improving Coach and staff expertise and knowledge of NCAA compliance, and the consequences of noncompliance as they relate to Bylaw 14 and progress towards degree. Providesinterpretative assistance to coaches, staff, current and prospective student-athletes on NCAA rules related to Bylaw 14 as a means to prevent NCAA violations. Assists with quarterly and annual evaluation of eligibility of all student-athletes, which requires a specializedknowledge of NCAA Division I regulations. Assists with data collection and analysis for various NCAA & institutional reports, including but not limited to Federal Graduation Rates, NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Actively participates in evaluating, updating and writing compliance and student services policies and procedures. Oversees and continually assesses the Student-Athlete Development Program and corresponding student services, including Triton Rising Orientation Series,quarterly and annual workshops, speaker series, tutoring programs, community service projects, team retreats, awards and recognition events, and "missed class letters." Provides eligibility advising to designated half of the student-athlete population. Represents UC SanDiego at the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) conferences, acquires and disseminates information to UC San Diego student-athletes, and applies the techniques and skills learned at NCAA and CCAA conferences to the UC San Diego athletic program. Provides support on special projects. Provides administrative and programmatic support to Athletic Directors and Coaches. Provides support on special projects. Uses professional concepts to assist staff in the execution and administration of small or well-defined intercollegiate athletics program(s) and / or activities of moderate scope and complexity. Applies policies and procedures to resolve a variety of athletics department issues. Works on issues where analysis of situations or information requires a review of a variety of factors.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Juris Doctor or advanced level degree preferred.
Working knowledge of program activity and best practices. Professional knowledge of the NCAA regulations, philosophy and objectives of a Division II athletics program. Knowledge of and experience with student financial aid programs, academic programs, and/or intercollegiate athletic programs.
Problem-solving skills; multi-task, work with frequent interruptions, and effective listener. Demonstrated skill in organizing, prioritizing, and maintaining a diverse workload, establishing and meeting goals and deadlines, and independently following tasks through completion. Skill to independently research and analyze policy issues and directives, identify resources, make appropriate contacts, and form solid recommendations.
Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Superior communication skills to express ideas clearly and to identify the correct issues to be communicated, the appropriate audience, the method of communication, and the timing of the communication. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in apositive manner with diverse clientele, using a high degree of confidence, initiative, tact, diplomacy, flexibility, patience and discretion in dealing with a diverse population of students, parents, staff, supporters, campus administrators, faculty and the general public.
Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties. Operating knowledge of database management to include statistical queries, import and export of data from different software applications, sorting, and summarizing data for reporting purposes.
Skill in reading and understanding complex and/or detailed documents such as NCAA and UCSD policies and procedures, software manuals, purchasing agreements, financial statements and academic records.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, tact, diplomacy and flexibility. Skill in working independently and in group situations.
Advanced writing skills to independently draft correspondence and guidelines, pertaining to athletic operations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to maintain equanimity while under the pressure of coordinating multiple projects and being subject to constantly changing priorities. Ability to handle difficult scenarios with tact, professionalism and confidentiality.
Willingness to accept special assignments and other duties as assigned. Strong initiative and follow-through skills, including attention to detail to follow projects to completion.
Thorough knowledge of the NCAA mission, values and goals regarding teamwork, diversity, fair play, financial integrity and commitment to academic excellence. Compassionate and respectful understanding of the student-athlete's experience at a UC or like institution.
Skill in analytical and evaluative work; demonstrated ability to analyze problems and work independently with minimal written instruction or verbal guidance.
Demonstrated ability to prepare and present educational and informational workshops and seminars to coaches and student-athletes regarding NCAA compliance, scholarships and student development services.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with key University personnel, including Counseling & Psychological Services, Student Career Services, Athletic Training, Student Health Services, College Advisors, Office of Student Conduct, Undergraduate Academic Advising Council (UAAC), and the Organization of Department and Program Advisors (ODAPA). Skill in demonstrating a supportive and constructive attitude and in establishing good rapport with supervisor, colleagues, student athletes, coaches, trainers and with campus personnel at large.
Demonstrated skill and ability to provide interpretation and advice relating to NCAA policies and compliance issues, acquired through formal graduate level education and professional experience. (preferred)
Must be able to work periodic evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be willing to travel to out-of-town meetings.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $49,400 - $82,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $23.66 - $39.37
