BASIC FUNCTION :
The purpose of this position is to provide care for the Howard University student-athlete in the following areas: prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses, evaluation of athletic injuries, treatment of athletic injuries, providing education and counseling to student-athletes about their injury/illness. This position directly reports to the Director of Sports Medicine.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses, evaluation of athletic injuries, treatment of athletic injuries, providing education and counseling to student-athletes about their injury/illness.

• Assist with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room.

• Help supervise the Assistant Athletic Trainers.

• Assist with Administrative Duties assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.

• Travels with assigned team.

• Participates in inventory management of supplies.

• Documents and maintains student-athlete PHI (i.e. physicals, injury reports, rehabilitation, etc.) into EMR

• Maintains appropriate communication with the Director of Sports Medicine, student-athletes, coaches, and physicians.

• Maintains appropriate communication and attends meetings within the Department of Athletics.

• Maintains an athletic calendar of events for team practice, games, and other schedule activities.

• Will coordinate and maintain records for all athletic physical examinations for all student-athletes.

• Completes required CEU’s for BOCATC.

• Remain in good standing with the BOCATC.

• Uphold Howard University Sports Medicine Policy & Procedures for athletes.

• Works more than the traditional 40 hours per week, which may include many weekends (including Sundays), nights and holidays.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license for transportation of team in vans and the ability to travel for team practices and competition.

• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in exercise physiology/health education, sports medicine or a related field preferred.
• NATABOC certification.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
• 4-6 years of experience.
