The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations serves as a member of the department’s Athletics Executive Team committed to excellence and advancing the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics through its strategic plan and vision. This senior level position will have broad supervision of internal operations supporting the student-athlete experience and varsity program strategic success, including sports medicine, strength and conditioning, facilities, capital planning, and equipment. This position is responsible for establishing policies and procedures that achieve the development of quality, competitive athletic teams and support the academic goals of student-athletes. In addition, this position will provide oversight of assigned athletic sport programs, collaborating with coaches to monitor program budgets, review and monitor time management plans, develop action plans, set strategic goals, professional development, establish sport program schedules, and conduct annual performance evaluations of programs and coaches.
Primary accountabilities:
Provides executive leadership, direction, and administrative oversight of the Athletics internal
operations and multiple units, including sports medicine, strength and conditioning, facilities, and equipment. Sets overall strategies and objectives for the unit. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; and performance management.
Works directly with the Director of Athletics in developing and implementing strategic initiatives, departmental goals, long-term growth plans, and critical decision-making events. Ensures long-term goals are met and communicates the department’s alignment with institutional objectives. Develops solutions for difficult problems/issues.
Collaborates with internal and external key stakeholders, including coaches, student-athletes, University administration, and athletic conference administrators to align operational strategies with overarching departmental goals. Represents the department in a positive manner and effectively advocates for the interests of the University and department.
Serves as a member of the Athletics Executive Team and as a sport administrator to assigned sport programs to include personnel, budget management, competition scheduling, team athletic and academic performance, and NCAA and Mid-American Conference compliance.
Plans and manages administrative aspects of Ohio University Athletics operations, including program administration, human resources, financial operations, events, and compliance. Administers and manages Athletics budget and fiscal operations. Responsible for the development of department policies and procedures.
Oversees the strategic planning and execution of diverse activities within a larger functional area of the institution. Leads and directs significant programs through subordinate managers, setting overall strategies and objectives for the area. Contributes to the development of University-wide strategies. Accountable for ensuring that long-term goals are met and communicating the department’s alignment with institutional objectives.
Manages multiple departments or functions. Directly oversees at least 2.0 FTE employees or one or more supervisors. Has authority to hire, transfer, suspend, promote, manage performance, discharge, assign duties, reward, and discipline employees.
Responsible for large-scale budgets and strategic fiscal management for multiple work units or large academic unit.
Handles significant organizational problems, often with long-term impact.
Operates with significant autonomy, drives company-wide initiatives.
Influences and collaborates with senior leadership and internal/external stakeholders to drive organizational goals.
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Requires a Master’s degree in a related field, 10 or more years of related professional experience, and 7 or more years of supervisory experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Division I athletic senior administrator experience.
