The UW Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) has an outstanding opportunity for a Director.
The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sport Administration reports to the Deputy Athletic Director – Student Services/SWA and will provide oversight, leadership and supervision to all persons in the assigned areas of responsibility.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct and supervise the day-to-day administrative operations for assigned sports programs, administrative units, and other areas as assigned. Assess and evaluate operations and personnel performance for assigned units of oversight. Monitor financial and budgetary activities, authorize all proposed expenditures. Represent the sports programs when recommending the annual renewal of athletic related aid to the Committee on Financial Aid. Liaison between sports programs, the Department, the University and the community. Support the Deputy Athletic Directors with the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the operation of the sports programs and other administrative units. 50%
Direct, supervise and evaluate head coaches and other unit heads in assigned areas of oversight. Indirectly supervise and evaluate the assistant coaches and staff for these programs and units. Responsible for recruiting, hiring, evaluations, salary recommendations, dismissal of personnel and disciplinary action if necessary. Provide staff development. Orient new coaches and staff to department policy and procedures. Work with coaches and staff to solve problems and resolve issues. May supervise or indirectly evaluate clerical support staff. Oversee sport operations, including camps, special events, and championships. 30%
Represent ICA as directed on national, conference and campus working groups. Attend home and away sporting events and department functions. Interact with supporters and donors. Speak to community groups regarding the athletic program. Serve and lead department committees as assigned by the Director of Athletics. 20%
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree required preferably in Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, or Education/Sports Administration.
• Experience in a highly successful Division I athletic department and a minimum of 5 years of experience related to this position.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Experience managing a budget and a complex unit of staff and volunteers. Experience working with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff and customers. Ability to represent the department professionally with the media, in public speaking, and in oral and written communications. Demonstrated commitment to the values of excellence, integrity and student growth. Knowledge of and respect for NCAA rules.
