Reporting to the Associate Vice President for University Advancement and in collaboration with the Athletic Director, the incumbent develops and implements strategies and action plans to secure philanthropic support from donors interested in supporting athletic initiatives through gifts and pledges of $25,000 or more.
Makes personal visits with prospective donors to engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward their gift interest in support of Winthrop’s athletic programs.
Plans and executes local, regional and national travel, as needed.
Manages an active portfolio of approximately 80 prospects in all stages of the gift cycle.
Solicits major gifts and pledges of $25,000 or more.
Completes contact and call reports in a timely fashion on the Raiser’s Edge platform.
Works collaboratively with peer Advancement, Athletics, Foundation and other university staff and volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors.
Assists with Advancement and Athletics programming and initiatives in support of fundraising goals.
Bachelor’s degree.
At least five years of professional experience in fundraising or related non-profit organizational work, alumni relations, sales or closely related field.
Valid driver’s license.
Master’s degree.
Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and/or professional experience working in athletics.
Demonstrated success in building donor/client relationships.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Proven success with cold-calling techniques.
Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies.
Effective organizational skills and the ability to manage time and travel and successfully juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong research and analytical skills.
Demonstrated self-initiative and creative problem solving abilities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the campus community and forge strong relationships with alumni and prospective donors.
Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment in all circumstances.
High level of competency with common MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and working knowledge of or ability to learn Raiser’s Edge
NXT
platform software.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute annual and long-term work plans.
Attendance at sporting events and local, regional and national travel required.
