Loyola Marymount University (LMU) seeks an energetic and innovative advancement professional to serve as Senior Vice President for University Advancement (SVP). The SVP will be a proven leader with a bold vision to lead and support a creative and forward-looking fundraising organization and university.

The SVP will guide and advance the philanthropic efforts of the university and will steward the University’s comprehensive campaign. The successful candidate will engage and foster productive relationships with colleagues in the various university colleges, schools, centers, institutes, and programs and enhance the institutional culture of philanthropy. The SVP will also have extensive experience in the areas of campaign planning and execution, team management, and major and principal gift fundraising.

Reporting to the President of the University, the Senior Vice President for University Advancement (“SVP”) is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive institutional advancement programs and recruiting and developing talented team members focused toward the ultimate goal of significantly increasing constituent involvement and fundraising outcomes. The advancement function includes responsibility for major gifts and gift planning, comprehensive campaigns, corporate and foundation relations, annual fund, growing the endowment, alumni and constituent relations, stewardship, and advancement services.

The SVP is a member of the President’s Cabinet and provides support to the Campaign Committee of the Board of Trustees.

  • Advance the mission, vision, and short and long-term goals of the University in concert with the University President and senior administrative colleagues. Engage University colleges, schools, centers, institutes, and programs and enhance the institutional culture of philanthropy. Maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, coaches, and campus departments whose cooperation is essential to effective outreach and fundraising. Provide leadership to constituent relations programs in the areas of alumni relations, parent relations, and other key constituents. Create and execute fundraising plans that utilize best practices in major, annual, and planned gift programs to meet fundraising goals. Ensure dynamic processes in all phases of donor discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Work closely with the President to design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.
  • Expand and diversify donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. Maintain a dynamic portfolio of high net worth individuals and secure major, capital, and planned gifts, as well as advanced annual gifts and endowment support. In addition, work closely with the Boards of Trustees and Regents and support Board members as they take on active fundraising roles.
  • Lead a team of fundraising and development professionals, including but not limited to hiring, inspiring, evaluating, and supporting the team towards accountable, goal-oriented outcomes. 
  • Establish and implement the infrastructure needed to grow the budget through the solicitation of major gifts, corporate and foundation support, and special events.
  • Accelerate fundraising in future years by systematically and effectively strengthening the organization's overall fundraising capacity.
  •  Steward the campaign through ongoing comprehensive and effective campaign execution and monitoring.
  •  Be active and involved in the advancement profession and keep LMU visible among higher education peer institutions.
  •  Embody values of caring, compassion, justice, integrity, competence, and affirmation. Treat members of the campus community with fairness, dignity, and respect.
