Job Summary
The Softball Intern reports to the Head Softball Coach and may have a second report relative to an assigned secondary duty. The primary tasks are to assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the program including plan practices and game strategies, game day responsibilities and recruiting student athletes in concert with the academic mission of the University. In addition, a secondary responsibility will be assigned that could include game management, intramurals and club sports, facilities management or strength and conditioning. The position appointment is for one year, renewable up to a total of three years. This position is defined as a non-exempt position under
FLSA
regulations.
Specific Responsibilities
Assist the Head Coach in the following:
Identifying and recruiting academically qualified student-athletes
Both off-campus and on-campus recruiting efforts
Developing and conducting organized practices
Game day responsibilities
Fundraising opportunities
Counseling student-athletes in a positive manner and serving as a positive role model to all SU students on a daily basis.
Adhere to all
NCAA
, Conference and University rules and regulations
Develop positive rapport with athletics staff as well as the entire SU community
Represent the University to various constituents in a professional manner
Perform other duties as assigned by Head Coach
Perform the secondary duty as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Deep understanding of and passion for the game of Softball; Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build strong collaborative relationships. Requires ability to multi-task and attend to detail. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with current students and parents, prospective students and parents, and staff and faculty in a professional manner. Ability to use technology and equipment specific to the sport.
Additional Requirements
This position requires a valid driver’s license, the ability to drive and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle.

This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (
CSA
) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual

training requirements.
Physical Demand
Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction ability to frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Position requires lifting, pulling, pushing: Exert up to 50 pounds for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires travel. Work is indoors and outdoors.
