Serves in a leadership role within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Serves as champion to enable the efficient performance of the official duties of the Chicago State University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and other athletics executive team members. Responsibilities require exercising initiative, discretion and independent judgment. This position supports activities to ensure a highly complex schedule of daily activities are well executed.The Special Assistant to the Athletic Director is a key member of the athletic department, responsible and accountable for leading, planning, directing, managing, and controlling departmental functions that provide strategic and operational services to employees to improve the workforce and positively influence organizational performance and results. The Assistant is responsible for building relationships and increasing the internal and external reputation of the department.This position will interact on a regular basis with: special visitors to the Director of Athletics’ office, Presidents cabinet, alumni (foundation & athletic alumni), corporate executives, donors, student athletes, Athletics coaches and staff. This position will possess the ability to act in a decision-making capacity on behalf of the Athletic Director at meetings and in communications as necessary.
Direct the day-to-day operational requirements of the Athletic Program, including overseeing various functions, projects and events under the jurisdiction of the Athletic Director. Lead and oversee all athletic marketing, community engagement and game day activations.Research and analyze Athletic Departments policy and operational issues and develops and recommends administrative policies and procedures.Serve as a point of contact with the Chicago State campus and external community on the Director of Athletics behalf.Represent Senior Administrator office/administrator at campus/university committees’ meetings and correspondence.Lead fundraising efforts for the CSU Athletics Department.Manage Corporate Partnerships and increase new partnerships.Identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts of $10,000 or more for the Cougar Pride Annual Fund.Oversee the fundraising efforts of the Sports Expansion Campaign.Establish and maintains effective working relationships and communications with administrators, staff, student athletes, alumni, friends, booster clubs, and the local community regarding CSU Athletics.Investigate Athletic Department issues, consults with involved parties, and provides advice regarding various options for action.Supervise Athletic Communications Associate, Student Workers, and Extra Help Staff.Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree. 3-5 to years as an Assistant to a Director/Dean/Vice President, Chancellor or Vice President/Vice Chancellor at a major cooperation, non-profit organization, or institution of Higher Education.
Master’s Degree Experience working at an NCAA Division I institution
Demonstrated Leadership within intercollegiate athletics. Demonstrated project planning and execution experience. Ability to communicate effectively written and verbal. Ability to maintain working relationships with peers, directors, executive staff. Ability to interpret and articulate policies, practices, procedures. Extensive knowledge associated with being an Executive Assistant. Commitment to compliance with campus, conference and NCAA rules and policies. Demonstrated initiative, well-developed problem-solving skills. Ability to assess, prioritize and execute an array of important tasks around shared priorities.
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:1. Remain at a workstation for extended periods2. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis.
