The University of Maryland Department of Transportation Services is seeking a dynamic Special Events Parking Supervisor to join our Special Events Team. This role is responsible for the coordination and management of parking services for approximately 500 special events each year, including athletic events, orientations, job fairs, and graduations. Under general supervision, the Special Events Parking Supervisor will lead a team of full-time staff and student employees, overseeing all facets of event-related parking operations. The role involves coordinating unit activities, representing the unit(s) to higher-level administrative personnel, and making procedural decisions based on a thorough understanding of departmental policies and procedures.
Key Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Oversee parking operations for around 500 special events annually, including university and athletic events.
Supervise and coordinate a team of full-time and part-time staff for event setup, signage placement, permit distribution, and customer assistance.
Manage parking services for major events like
UMD
home football and men’s basketball games, addressing complex customer service issues as they arise.
Hire, train, and supervise both student and regular staff, and handle parking enforcement responsibilities.
Schedule staff, manage timesheets, and perform various administrative tasks such as correspondence and file management.
Education:
High School Diploma or
GED
.
Experience:
Five years progressively responsible clerical work to include at least one year in supervisory capacity.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in applying office practices and procedures, principles of office management and supervision.
Thorough knowledge of business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Skill in planning and coordinating clerical work; in supervising, motivating and training clerical personnel; in interpreting and applying departmental policies and procedures; in operating manual and automated office equipment including personal computers and related software; in composing correspondence and preparing reports; in performing mathematical computations; in establishing clerical methods and procedures; in negotiating and resolving scheduling and procedural problems.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
Other:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Partial outdoor environment exposed to weather conditions of all four seasons.
