The Price Center for Counseling & Psychological Services at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (CAPS) supports the academic, personal, and interpersonal development of UNC Charlotte students by providing short-term individual and group counseling, psychological assessment, consultation for faculty, staff, parents, and students, and educational programs to the campus community. The Athletics Department supports 18 varsity sports teams, including baseball, softball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, and volleyball.
This position will deliver clinical and sport psychology services to student athletes in a collaborative effort to enhance personal, academic, and athletic success of student athletes. The position provides consultation, and educational outreach services to athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff.
Broadly supervised by the Director of the Center for Counseling & Psychological Services with direct supervision from a CAPS Associate Director with secondary supervision from the Executive Associate Director of Athletics, this position will deliver clinical services to student-athletes, including members of Charlotte’s cheerleading squad; provide consultation to teams, coaches, and other staff; and deliver educational programming. Additionally, the position will oversee the continued development of program to provide psychological services to student-athletes and teams, including supervision of a post-doctoral fellow in sport psychology.
Earned Doctorate from an APA-accredited Counseling or Clinical Psychology program. Completion of an APA-accredited doctoral internship Experience and expertise in providing sport psychology services to student-athletes Experience providing counseling within a brief therapy model Clinical experience with young adults.
Expertise in strength-based psychological skills training; strong presentation skills; experience in a university counseling center; and demonstrated ability to collaborate within the Center, with Athletics, and throughout the university community are highly preferred. Clinical experience and demonstrated collaboration, advocacy, and liaison relationships with diverse student populations.
Eligibility for licensure as a Psychologist in the State of North Carolina.
Credentials as a Certified Consultant from the Association for Applied Sports Psychology (AASP).
