Director of Counseling Services
The Sport Psychology Counselor reports to the Director of Counseling Services and works primarily with the university’s student athletes. This position will provide mental health services (counseling, outreach, crisis intervention, group work, risk assessments, performance anxiety, injury support, support groups, etc.) to student athletes and consultation to coaches. The Sport Psychology Counselor will be integrated withinin both Counseling Services and Athletics.
This is a 10-month position that works M-F from August through May. The Sport Psychology Counselor will be able to work some evenings during the semester; most days 8:30-4:30, with 1 or 2 days of 11-7 to best meet the student-athlete schedule. There will be one weekend per month when this position will be required to be on-call for behavioral health emergencies.

Provide counseling, short-term therapy, referrals, evaluation and risk assessment services to the University student athlete population. Managing a significant caseload during academic semesters.
Support student athletes in the areas of injury recovery, social anxiety, grief and loss, lack of playing time, game day anxiety, transitioning to and from college, time management strategies, etc.
Participate in Bryant University Athletics and Counseling Center’s student outreach events and trainings.
Provide programming support in collaboration with Bryant University Athletics such as group therapy to student athletes.
Coordinate programming with Athletic teams and facilitate and support intern Sport Counselors in this effort.
In collaboration with Bryant Athletics, provide effective consultation services to student athletes, faculty, staff, and families.
Develop and implement outreach/prevention and psycho-educational groups/programs in collaboration with the Athletics departments.
Attend open houses and orientation programs in associated with Bryant Athletics and Counseling Services 1 time annually, and outside normal business hours as needed.
Be the back-up, on call counselor for behavioral health emergencies, one weekend per month Friday-Sunday.
Collaboration with Athletics on Public Speaking and presentations on mental health and other topics as requested, to various athletic groups.
Perform other duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS
/
TRAINING
: This position is best served by an individual with:
Master’s degree in counseling or psychology.
Licensed in RI (
LMHC
) or licensed eligible within six months of appointment.
Experience with sport psychology, working with student athletes, mental health services on a college campus; expertise in the areas of suicide risk assessment, anxiety, depression, sexuality, identity work, substance abuse, and eating disorders preferred.
Excellent skills in psychological evaluation and diagnosis are also required.
