The Sports Dietitian provides individual and group/team nutrition counseling and education to enhance the performance of student athletes, on-site and during travel. Primary responsibilities include counseling individuals and groups on daily nutrition for performance and health; translating the latest scientific evidence into practical sports nutrition recommendations; tracking and documenting outcomes of nutrition services, serving as a food and nutrition resource for coaches, athletic trainers, and parents; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.

Essential Functions
Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy expenditure of athletes. Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training, competition, recovery, hydration, travel, etc. Provide personalized meal and snack plans for short and long term goals. Provides medical nutrition therapy, as needed to help manage or treat medical conditions and coordinates nutritional care as a member of a multidisciplinary sports medicine team. Educates and mentors dietetic interns, student workers, employees, etc. Develops and deliver nutrition education presentations, handouts/infographics, demonstrations, or events on various topics related to nutrition for performance. Assists with planning menus for training table and team travel. Recommends appropriate pre-, during, and post-exercise fluids and snacks for training and competition. Serves as a nutrition resource for coaches, athletic trainers, food service professionals, students and dietetic interns. Assists with coordination of nutrition for domestic and/or international travel during competition for individuals and teams. Develops and delivers nutrition education to food service personnel. Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements. Stays abreast of current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.

The position is mostly active; must have the ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds; however, individual is required to attend several athletic department games events and may be required to walk and stand for long periods of time.

Required Licensure/Certification Registered Dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Certification/Licensure as required by state of practice. Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) preferred.
Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification Minimum of 2 years’ experience in nutrition counseling, preferably with emphasis on sports nutrition. Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, or related field. Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
