JOB SUMMARY: The Sports Information Director (SID) leads the strategic communication efforts for the college's athletic department. This role is responsible for promoting and enhancing the visibility of all varsity and club athletic programs through creative storytelling, media relations, digital content, and game-day operations. The SID collaborates across departments to ensure a consistent and integrated message that supports the college’s mission and athletic objectives.
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications plan for the athletics department.
Write, edit, and distribute press releases, feature stories, game previews/recaps, and social media content.
Serve as the primary media contact for all varsity sports and coordinate interview requests with coaches and student-athletes.
Manage communication and promotional efforts for the Athletics Hall of Fame and serve on the HOF Board.
Maintain and regularly update the official athletics website in collaboration with the college’s web team and coaching staff.
Oversee the creation and distribution of printed and digital game-day programs, including a printed football program and digital programs with QR code access for all other sports.
Manage the athletics department’s presence across multiple social media platforms, ensuring timely and engaging content.
Produce high-quality live video and audio streams for home athletic events.
Coordinate and manage media operations and staffing for approximately 150 home athletic events each academic year.
Provide real-time statistical coverage and game reporting using NCAA-approved scoring software.
Ensure quality event presentation and live coverage that reflects positively on the college and its athletics programs.
Hire, train, mentor and supervise student workers and sports information staff.
Work closely with the Office of Marketing and Communications to align messaging and brand identity.
Collaborate with college departments, alumni relations, and enrollment to develop recruitment and event materials.
Coordinate athletics-related communications to internal and external audiences, including alumni, prospective students, parents, local media, and the campus community.
Manage special events and related media logistics as needed.
Facilitate the use of internal and external vendors and technology to support communication goals.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Prerequisites
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, sport management, or related field.
At least 3 years of professional experience in a collegiate sports information or athletic communications setting.
Proficiency in NCAA statistical software (e.g., StatCrew, Presto, NCAA LiveStats).
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign and Photoshop), and Google Workspace.
Experience with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, YouTube, and emerging channels.
Familiarity with Canva, SmugMug, and website content management systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in communications, sport management, or a related field.
Experience working in a college or university setting.
Working Conditions:
Frequent evening and weekend work is required.
On-call availability during athletic seasons.
Occasional travel to off-site events.
Ability to lift and transport equipment as needed.
Exposure to loud environments during athletic contests.
Prolonged periods of sitting and screen work.
