The Sports Information Officer is responsible for the oversight, management, and organization of the sports information within the Athletic Department, in addition to the planning implementation and coordination of all athletic communications. The Sports Information Officer reports directly to the Director of Athletics & Recreation.

Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially with regard to socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity and have a willingness to facilitate the university’s mission to develop global citizens.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate media relations for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Write, edit and distribute media releases to various outlets.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with coaching staffs, student-athletes, contacts at NAIA and CALPAC office, communication with other Universities, athletic department personnel.
  • Establish relationships with on-campus and local media.
  • Arrange and coordinate all media interviews for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Provide media relations training for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Prepare media notes and postseason summaries.
  • Oversee and update the department’s athletic website on a daily basis with competition previews, recaps and unique feature stories, team schedules, results, statistics, department information and bios.
  • Serve as the statistician for assigned sports.
