Who We Want
The Athletics Assistant – Sports Science, under general supervision, provides a broad range of testing, monitoring, and administrative support to the various Olympic Sport teams and Performance & Wellness units within the Athletics Department. They will contribute to the education and internal-research efforts of the Sports Science unit and Athletics Department as a whole.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in sports science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or related field.
Experience: One year of full-time and/or paid experience in a performance and wellness discipline (sports science, strength & conditioning, sports medicine, nutrition, psychology, etc.). Experience with athlete monitoring systems (such as GPS, accelerometer, or heart-rate system), force plate technology and other advanced assessments. Experience interpreting data and providing feedback to athletes, coaches and staff
Certification: NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or NSCA Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS). Other related Performance & Wellness certifications through national organizations will be seen as beneficial
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Understanding of Athlete Management Systems and/or other data management and visualization tools.
Responsibilities:
Service to Sports Teams (Olympic Sports) - Leads sports science service for assigned sports teams under the supervision of more senior full-time staff. Coordinates and schedules data collection (sports science testing and/or monitoring), analyzes and distributes data and reports, updates various databases and systems accordingly. Represents the sports science unit as an active member of each sport’s Performance & Wellness Group and assists with recruiting efforts of student athletes for those sports. Attends home games/competitions when possible and travel as needed to help develop enhanced training-recovery practices on the road. Assists sports science staff in service for other sports within the Athletics Department.
Education & Internal Research (Quality Control) - Contributes to the professional development / continuing education efforts of the sports science unit. Provides literature reviews on topics, methods, technologies, etc. as part of thorough vetting processes. Performs in-house research as needed to prepare our staff for best-practice. Shares key principles in educational sessions for coaches and student athletes. Performs performance administrative duties for the sports science unit as required by more senior sports science staff.
Support to Other Performance & Wellness Units - Is a key resource to staff from other Performance and Wellness units (sports medicine, sports performance, performance nutrition, counseling and sport psychology) along with other select on campus partners (Huffines Institute, Kinesiology and Sport Management, etc.).
Guidance of For-Credit Interns - Assists the sports science unit staff in the guidance, learning, and supervision of our Graduate and Undergraduate for-credit interns.
Compliance - Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athlete: conduct, appearance, road games, punctuality and other areas as deemed appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.
