Overview

Ensure the comprehensive well-being of student-athletes across physical, mental, and nutritional dimensions. Provide administrative oversight along with direct service delivery, aligning with the institution’s mission to foster holistic athlete development.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Recruit, train, and supervise athletic training staff ensuring high standards of practice and professional development. Assign administrative duties to optimize departmental efficiency. Hold regular meetings of the training staff to ensure proper communication and development. Improve methods and incorporate new technology and teachings into practice. Maintain accurate medical records for all student-athletes, ensuring compliance with regulations. Serve as NCAA healthcare administrator. Provide direct medical care, within the scope of the position, to student athletes in support of other Athletic Trainers. (40%)
  2. Serve as the Chief Medical Officer for student-athletes. Oversee and serve as the primary liaison to external Physicians, Orthopedists, specialists, and professional service contracts that work with student athletes. Work with the General Counsel to ensure appropriate licensing and paperwork is completed. Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations, institutional policies, and best practices. Collaborate closely with internal staff and external medical partners to maintain high standards of athlete health, safety, and care. (15%)
  3. Serve as the primary athletic department liaison to the Personal Counseling Center. Collaborate with the sports psychology service staff and other members of the center to develop and implement comprehensive mental health and wellness strategies. Manage the budget and oversee programming/events related to health and wellness services. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of wellness programs, adjusting as necessary. (15%)
  4. Serve as a member of the Athletic Director’s executive staff to assist in strategic decision making and provide organizational leadership within the athletic department. Participate in shaping the department’s vision, polices, and long-term goals. Provide input on major decisions such as budget allocation, staffing, and program improvements. Effectively collaborate with other departmental leaders, including the AD, coaches, and support staff, to ensure cohesive operations. Work in conjunction with the AD and Associate AD for Men’s and Women’s Basketball to ensure medical aspects of all NIL contracts are being met. (15%)
  5. Supervise the Assistant Athletic Director of Performance Nutrition ensuring alignment with departmental goals, including hiring, training, and fostering professional development. Oversee the Assistant AD in effective and efficient use of the Canavan Sports Medicine Fund, including procurement of supplies and overseeing the fueling station. (7.5%)
  6. Oversee the Director of High Performance and their team. Ensure communication between the high-performance staff and the rest of the medical team. Hold regular meetings involving all Health & Wellness constituents to ensure collaboration across all areas. (7.5%)
