Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assist the Director of Athletics with the organization and administration of the intercollegiate athletics program. Assume primary responsibility for sports information, public relations, promotions, and marketing, with secondary responsibilities for varsity game scheduling, transportation and meals.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assistant Sports Information Director and assigned student employees.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as the public relations resource for all intercollegiate sports in the compiling and reporting of all schedules, rosters, results and statistical data as required and requested by the NCAA, MASCAC, media outlets, campus community and general public.
Maintains department website with updated and accurate information including rosters, results, statistics, awards, schedules, records, archived material, relevant photos, human interest stories and all other associated information.
Prepares reports, writes, produces and provides all department publications including pre-season prospectus, game programs, game stories, postseason wrap-ups and media releases.
Distributes information to campus community, parents and general public in established University publications, via email and social network sites and on on-campus video monitors.
Manages, creates content, monitors, maintains and stays current with all department social media needs and accounts.
Provides direct supervision of the Sports Information Assistant.
Oversees webcasting for home athletic contests. Hires, trains and supervises students to provide video and audio feed for broadcast.
Establishes and maintains contacts with appropriate media and provides all relevant requested information.
Attends all home intercollegiate contests or arranges for professional staff coverage of events if unavailable. Coordinates specific Sports Information and Press Box contest management responsibilities.
Develops and manages a promotions/marketing plan for all intercollegiate programs and the Athletic Department in general at home athletics events, on and off-campus. Plan includes at least one special event at a home contest each year for each team.
Creates a schedule to provide for all photographic needs for intercollegiate teams to include roster photos and in-game action photos. Hires and supervises photographers.
Submits all preseason and postseason nominations for All-Conference, All-Region, All-American, All-Academic and other related awards from the NCAA, MASCAC, coaching organizations and other organizations.
Collaborates with the University office of Marketing & Communications, Student Development and other campus offices as needed. Serves as liaison with the Alumni Office and coordinates with that office in planning all aspects of the Hall of Fame Awards event.
Provide leadership as the advisor to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Establish expectations for committee members, select members in collaboration with coaches, schedule regular meetings, prepare agendas and assist with planning a community service project each semester. Coordinate with the MASCAC SAAC committee to insure representation and participation.
Serve as department contact for department staff, coaches and opponents for all intercollegiate contest scheduling. Coordinate schedules with officiating assigning bureaus.
Create and verify department transportation schedules to provide for all intercollegiate team needs. Serve as the liaison between coaches and transportation providers.
Assists in the development of operating policy for the Department of Athletics that supports the mission of the University and the state, regional and national athletic governing bodies and conferences.
Serves on selection committees for Department of Athletics personnel and on University committees as may be assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Two to three years of experience preferred with intercollegiate Sports Information operations and requirements with athletic administration.
Experience with website development, maintenance and associated software.
Demonstrated experience with Presto website and Presto stats.
Strong writing, computer, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Experience with student staff training, supervision and evaluation.
Ability to effectively relate to students, faculty, staff and the general public.
Ability to work weekend and evening hours.
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree preferred.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The annual salary range for this position is $62,500 to $67,500 commensurate with education and experience.
