Lawrence Technological University (LTU) Athletics invites applications for a Staff Athletic Trainer within the Department of Athletics and Student Wellness. This individual will develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive sports medicine and health care programs for Blue Devil student-athletes under the direction of, in collaboration with, or on the prescription of a team physician. The practice of athletic training at LTU encompasses risk management and injury prevention, clinical evaluation and assessment, immediate care and treatment, and rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries and illness, consistent with NATA and BOC Practice Analysis standards. This position plays a key role in supporting the academic and athletic success of student-athletes across LTU’s 26 NAIA varsity programs.
JOB DUTIES:
The following represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this position and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. The Staff Athletic Trainer may be asked to perform job-related duties beyond those explicitly described below.
Clinical & Patient Care
Provide on-site athletic training services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for assigned sport(s).
Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions and rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries and illnesses in collaboration with team physicians.
Conduct pre-participation physical examination screenings and maintain accurate, confidential medical records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA.
Provide emergency and immediate medical care, including management of acute injuries and administration of first aid, CPR, and AED.
Coordinate referrals to physicians, specialists, and allied health professionals as clinically indicated.
Manage the daily operations of the athletic training room, including inventory, equipment maintenance, and supply ordering.
Risk Management & Injury Prevention
Design and administer injury prevention programs, including pre-season screenings, functional movement assessments, and individualized conditioning protocols.
Develop and enforce emergency action plans (EAPs) for all assigned athletic venues in accordance with NAIA, WHAC, and LTU policies.
Monitor environmental conditions (heat, lightning, air quality) and implement appropriate athlete safety protocols.
Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, sleep hygiene, and mental wellness resources.
Administrative & Compliance
Maintain timely and thorough documentation of all injury evaluations, treatments, rehabilitation sessions, and physician communications.
Ensure compliance with NAIA rules and regulations, WHAC conference policies, and applicable state of Michigan athletic training practice act requirements.
Participate in departmental meetings, professional development activities, and continuing education programming.
Assist in the coordination of team physician coverage for practices, home events, and away competitions as assigned.
Collaborate with coaches, strength and conditioning staff, and the mental health/wellness team to support the holistic development of student-athletes.
Contribute to the department’s student-athlete wellness programming and community outreach initiatives.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Required
Completion of a CAATE-accredited professional athletic training education program.
Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) required.
Licensed as an Athletic Trainer (AT) through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to date of hire.
Current CPR/AED certification (professional rescuer level).
Ability to work independently and prioritize delivery of services across multiple clinical and athletic settings.
Preferred
Post-professional master’s degree in athletic training or a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience in all aspects of athletic training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in a collegiate athletic training setting (NAIA, NCAA, or NJCAA).
Familiarity with NAIA rules and regulations and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).
Additional certifications in health care (e.g., CSCS, PES, FMS, CKTP, EMT) are highly valued.
Required Certifications & Licensures
BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) — required prior to or upon hire.
Michigan Athletic Trainer Licensure — required prior to or upon hire (or eligibility to obtain).
CPR/AED Certification (BLS or Professional Rescuer level) — required prior to or upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of athletic training principles, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation techniques, and emergency care protocols.
Working knowledge of NAIA, WHAC, and applicable conference policies governing athlete health and safety.
Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and athletic training documentation software.
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with student-athletes, coaches, physicians, and campus partners.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and commitment to confidentiality.

Physical Requirements
The Staff Athletic Trainer must be able to stand, walk, kneel, and physically assist student-athletes throughout practices and competitions for extended periods. The position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, operate therapeutic modality equipment, and respond quickly in emergency situations. Work Schedule & Conditions
This is a full-time, 12-month position. The schedule will include evening hours, weekends, and travel in support of LTU athletic events and competitions. The Staff Athletic Trainer may be assigned coverage across multiple sports and will work within the athletic training facility and onfield/court settings throughout campus.
