This posting will remain open to generate a pool of qualified student applicants for available positions during the semester.
The purpose of the camera operator position is to successfully set up, tear down, and operate the camera equipment throughout the sport’s broadcast. In addition to learning how to operate the camera, this position may require students to learn about the production side of a sports broadcast. This includes setting up and tearing down equipment for the sport’s production, pulling in audio/video feed from the cameras and soundboard, trimming live feed for replays, downloading and overlaying graphics, and directing camera operators and producers during the live sporting event. There will be opportunities to call games a play-by-play and color commentator.
Setting up all the camera and production equipment before the game.
Operating the camera equipment throughout the entirety of the broadcast.
Tearing down all the camera and production equipment after the game.
Pull in the audio/video feed for the live-stream event.
Download and overlay graphics for the broadcast.
Trim down and play replays during the live sporting event.
Direct camera and production crew during the sport’s broadcast.
Call games as a play-by-play or color commentator.
No experience is necessary, but preference will be given to students who have taken Beginning Video Production (
COMM
/MM 1317), and/or Advanced Video Production (
COMM
/MM 4365) and who will also be enrolled and willing to work during the summer.
All entry-level positions start as a camera operator.
Other duties will apply while you train on the job.
Producing, Directing, Play by Play Commentator, and Color Commentator are advanced positions. These positions require more experience and come with a higher pay scale.
Must be able to stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
Must be able to walk a long distance.
Must be able to lift and carry 10 pounds.
Must be able to work outdoors.
