The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISOR SR-OLYMPICS SPORTS to provide counseling and advising to student-athletes on major and career planning and to maintain accurate and timely information on academic progress. To act as a senior advisor for the school or unit and provide training to other Student-Athlete Advisors. To coordinate Olympic sport student-athlete orientation and performing eligibility evaluations. To serve on campus committees and complete projects as assigned. To establish and maintain relationships with all student-athletes, coaches, and faculty.

Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISOR SR-OLYMPICS SPORTS to provide counseling and advising to student-athletes on major and career planning and to maintain accurate and timely information on academic progress. To act as a senior advisor for the school or unit and provide training to other Student-Athlete Advisors. To coordinate Olympic sport student-athlete orientation and performing eligibility evaluations. To serve on campus committees and complete projects as assigned. To establish and maintain relationships with all student-athletes, coaches, and faculty.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides counseling and advising to student-athletes on major selection, class registration, graduation requirements and career planning.
2. Coordinates weekly schedules, appointments, and grade reports for assigned teams and student athletes.
3. Handles recruiting visits for prospective student-athletes.
4. Maintains accurate and timely information on academic progress relating to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) initial and continuing eligibility.
5. Collaborates with Registrar's Office to ensure accurate certification of all assigned student-athletes.
6. Works with Associate/Assistant Athletic Director to recruit, supervise, and professionally develop interns within the department.
7. Assists with the admission process of incoming Freshman/Transfers and the planning of the Summer Bridge program
8. Performs transcript evaluations for prospective transfer from various levels in a timely manner.
9. Assists students with time management and academic skill building, partnering with learning support to provide a holistic approach to academic support.
10. Adheres to all institution, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations and reports to all violations in accordance with each organization's set guidelines. Adheres to the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).
11. Serves as a liason between athletic and on-campus departments to facilitate communication forstudent-athletes and coaches.
12. Collaborates in the development of class schedules and degree plans for assigned students in partnership with the major advisor.
13. Works with faculty and staff to proctor exams for student-athletes at non-standard time or while traveling for athletic competitions.
14. Works a flexible schedule to include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. Travels with athletic teams as needed.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

(Annual Salary: $47,665 - $56,000)

Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field and three(3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirements.
