The position exists to ensure that the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics achieves its mission of providing quality support services for student-athletes in the areas of academic support, athletics eligibility compliance, athletics recruitment, and student-athlete development. This role is responsible for but not limited to managing academic support programs and initiatives, coordinating regular reports of academic success, overseeing student-athlete development initiatives, and assisting with other duties assigned.
Coordinate and monitor academic activities in the Athletic Department;
Monitor student-athletes academic progress;
Work on a goal of increased retention and graduation rates for student-athletes;
Assist new student-athletes with academic counseling and support;
Monitor roster changes, study hall and referrals to campus entities for student-athlete academic, emotional, physical support;
Assist with overseeing athletic facilities and event management;
Identifies and monitors issues affecting student-athlete eligibility and retention;
Meet with at-risk student-athletes regularly and develop academic improvement plans;
Act as liaison with Academic Support, Admission Student Success Center, and Registrar;
Refer student-athletes to on-campus resources when appropriate;
Facilitate student-athlete success workshops;
Provides general assistance to the Director of Athletic with respect to day-to-day operations;
Maintain regular communication and hold weekly meetings with coaches;
Serve on various departmental and institutional committees as requested;
Coordinating, implementing and supervising all game day operations for
NMHU
Intercollegiate Athletics, including set up and break down, which includes but is not limited to venue preparation for practice and competition, supervising and instructing workers;
Serve as the advisor for
SAAC
;
Maintain regular attendance;
Perform other duties as assigned.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in any field;
• Experience: None
• Education: Master’s Degree in Education
• Must be willing to work weekends, evenings and odd hours as required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid NM driver’s license. Selection of an out of state candidate will require possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s license within sixty (60) days of employment.
• Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and databases (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint,, Publisher, Outlook, etc.);
• Ability to analyze and solve problems;
• Ability to maintain confidential information and inquiries with discretion;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Ability to perform routine office duties;
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, University community, and the public
• Organizing and coordinating skills.
