Student Eligibility Specialist

UNM Athletics Academic Advising is seeking a Student Eligibility Specialist to coordinate and advise specific sports to include women’s basketball and another Olympic sports such as baseball or track and field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and knowledge of NCAA rules and standards regarding student eligibility and graduation.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Providing a variety of student support services such as, career advisement, tutoring, accessibility services, assessment/testing, at-risk student services, crisis management, and co-curricular education programs

Collaborating with Academic Advisors to provide academic guidance
·
Implementing programs and initiatives with defined recruitment, retention, and graduation outcomes
·
Assisting student athletes in understanding meeting eligibility guidelines based on NCAA, Mountain West Conference, and UNM requirements

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Sports Management or a related field
Demonstrated experience with:
Advising collegiate student-athletes
Experience with coordinating tutor programming
Knowledge of NCAA eligibility rules
Coordinating and overseeing programming aimed to support incoming students of various levels of academic ability
Working individually with at-risk students (including those with learning disabilities)
Employing a wide variety of methods designed to meet individual learning preferences
Supporting high-achieving students with academic needs as well as career focused pursuits
Taking initiative, self-motivation and professionalism
Thriving in a collaborative team environment
Coordinating workshops and/or events pertaining to student-athletes holistic development
