JOB DESCRIPTION

USC Athletics is looking to hire an Academic Advisor for Football and Women’s Crew (Student Services Advisor II). Reporting to the Director of Academic Advising, this position will provide academic advising, planning and other support for assigned football and women’s crew student-athletes in areas of course selection, registration procedures, degree requirements, and career goals.  Successful candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and extensive knowledge and application of NCAA rules and related academic tracking technology (i.e. Teamworks, DARS). This individual will also be required to maintain detailed student progress records, communicate regularly with supervisors and appropriate football and women’s crew staff, and have the ability to work autonomously while maintaining cooperative working relationships. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communications skills are required. Excellent interpersonal skills are a necessity. Candidates will be part of the Football Advising Team.

This is a non-exempt (hourly) position that may require some overtime including evening and/or weekend hours.

Roles and responsibilities to include:

  • Attends regular advising staff meetings and in-person student appointments between 8am-5pm on weekdays.

  • Provides academic counseling for undergraduate and graduate student athletes, advising on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation, and graduation counseling and clearance. Monitors student progress.

  • Evaluates student problems, academic, administrative or personal, and refers student to appropriate student services office for additional counseling. Liaises with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.
