Position Description:
The Student Success Specialist III (Associate Director of Academic Services) oversees academic services provided to an assigned sport program(s), provides guidance and support to student-athletes, monitors academic performance and oversees assigned student services program(s) (e.g., student organization, tutoring program, degree completion program, diversity, awards and nominations committee, etc.) as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services or Associate Athletic Director for Student Services.
Job Responsibilities:
Oversee and coordinate academic services provided to assigned sport program(s)
Mentor academic counselors and supervise graduate asistants, interns and student workers as assigned
Communicate academic policies and procedures as well as NCAA, ACC and institutional eligiblilty requirements to student-athletes, coaches, sport administrators and Athletics personnel and produce academic reports
Communicate academic reports with coaches via email, weekly meetings, text, Teamworks, etc.; create exam dates and times and mid-year report and End of Year summaries documents for coaches
Monitor student-athletes’ academic performance to ensure NCAA, ACC and institutional eligibility requirements are met including but not limited to: Provide preliminary transcript evaluation for prospective athletes. Track designation of degree forms for student-athletes prior to their 5th semester. Complete verification forms for student-athletes in their final semester if less than full-time. Review pre-certification results regarding academic progress and degree percentage met. Maintain student program plans for each student-athlete’s major/minor selection. Maintain detailed and accurate records of students’ academic progress and performance; complete semester summaries for APR and continuing eligibility; Update and track academic progress utilizing degree progress reports and tracking folders
Provide academic guidance and support to student-athletes and identify educational strategies to provide individualized and holistic support services
Be available to work evening and weekend hours and travel, if needed
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in intercollegiate academic counseling or student services setting
Previous experience working with diverse populations and proven ability to work in a University setting
Proven track record of managing a successful registered student organization
Proven excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively and tactfully with all members of the University community.
Ability to work evening and weekend hours and travel, if needed
