Job Summary

Work where you study! Student Employment programs at Lake-Sumter State College are intended to provide real-world job experiences for students, including an application and interview processes, on-the-job training and experiences, and professional soft skills.

LSSC student employee supervisors will work with student employees on their work schedules to ensure that education is the priority.

The Mascot Handler serves as the official goodwill ambassador for Lake-Sumter State College by promoting school spirit, student/faculty/staff engagement, community connections, and building affinity to the college.Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating and Celebrating.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform as the Lakehawk Mascot or Handler at athletic games, college events, and community functions.
• Appear at community outreach and charity events sponsored or supported by the College.
• Positively represents the College.
• Participate in the filming of commercials, promotional videos, and photo campaigns.
• Serve in a rotation as a Mascot Handler.
• Perform other tasks as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Possess an outgoing personality with the ability to provide excellent customer service and positive, respectful interaction with fans, students, staff and members of the community, including children of all ages.
• Able to assume the character of the Mascot/Handler as outlined by the College.
• Be in good physical condition to wear costume, stand and walk and be active for extended periods of time.
• Able to assess individual social clues and level of interaction desired by fans.
• Able to work well in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment.
• Able to work in a flexible and fast paced environment, exercising good judgment and discretion without close supervision.
• Committed to working in an inclusive and multicultural environment.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

• Current LSSC Student.
• Enrolled in at least 6 credits/semester (fall and spring) or 3 credits/semester (summer)
• High School Diploma or GED
