NDSU Facilities Management Turf Maintenance Shop is looking for turf maintenance staff for the fall / winter months. This job can carry into the spring / summer for the 2024 season for interested candidates looking to stay in the area.

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: Negotiable...for the right candidates this position could be a spring / summer / fall / winter opportunity while completing school.

Hours: When Fall and Spring semesters are in session, hours are flexible up to 40 hours / week. We will work around your class schedule for Fall and Spring semesters.

Starting in May after spring semester is out, hours would be 40-hour weeks with half-day Fridays carrying through the summer and most weekends off.

Pay: $11 - $14 / hour starting, depending on experience… performance pay increases eligible for turf shop employees on an annual basis.

Job Details:   

Spring / Summer / Fall

• Artificial turf maintenance to include field grooming and sweeping, blowing debris off fields, trash pickup, assisting with moving athletic equipment when required, assisting with repairing minor cuts and tears, etc.
• Real turf maintenance to include field setup, mowing, trimming, trash cleanup, spraying, fertilizing, topdressing, seeding, sodding, watering, repairs, some painting / striping, spring & fall cleanup, assist with irrigation repairs / maintenance / setup, etc.
• Some heavy equipment use such as skid loaders, tractors, small pay loaders to complete projects
• Other duties to include training, special projects, basic equipment maintenance (washing, greasing, checking fluids & tire pressure, changing mower blades, simple repairs), shop projects, and other misc. tasks as assigned.

Winter

• Artificial turf maintenance in our sweet new indoor Nodak Insurance Football Performance Complex to include tasks like listed above in the Spring / Summer / Fall section.
• Assist with maintaining safe sidewalks on the North side of campus and around our athletic complexes that get used in the winter months utilizing our Bobcat Skid Loader with heated cab, Loader Tractor with heated cab, Kubota UTV with heated cab and Plow, Toro Workman Utility Vehicle with heated cab and Salt Spreader, and some minor hand-salting / sanding where needed.
• Shop work, shop projects, other misc. tasks as assigned, basic equipment maintenance (washing, greasing, checking / maintaining fluids & tire pressure, changing mower blades, simple repairs).

About the Job: The Turf Shop is primarily responsible for field readiness for all our NDSU athletic complexes, but also includes turf maintenance and projects for perimeter areas around the athletic complexes. Currently there are some exciting changes happening to a number of athletic complexes like the new Nodak Insurance Football Performance Complex coming up just West of University that will be nearing completion, the new outdoor track facility on the West side of campus just North of 15th Ave, and a new Rugby Field renovation just West of 18th Street. The Turf Shop is comprised of a group of hard-working staff, and we take pride in our work. For those individuals that are turf majors or those interested in lawn care careers or the athletic turf maintenance industry, this is an especially great learning opportunity for you. It is a well-rounded position with gained experience in irrigation systems, artificial turf maintenance, real turf maintenance, field setup, mowing and other agronomic practices, and equipment operation to name a few. Also, if you aren’t a turf major and just like being outside or working with turf and equipment, this job is for you.

We have fun, but we work safely and efficiently to make sure we are meeting the needs of the different NDSU athletic sports groups. The right person should have a can-do attitude, come to work on time ready to work and ready to learn new things. Equipment experience with mowers, string trimmers, tractors, skid loaders is preferred, but not required as you will be trained.
