Job Description:

_ To be eligible to apply for this position, you must be a current student enrolled at McDaniel College. This position is open to both work study and campus employment students. _

Position: Athletics Academic Tutor (Football)    

Reports to: Assistant Coach Defensive Line                  

Department: Athletics          

Salary Grade: Maryland Minimum Wage                                                       

FSLA Status: Non-exempt

Location:  Gill Center Football Offices, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157

Duration of Appointment: 8/7** /2024-5/21/20 ***5*

Schedule:  Schedule is at discretion of supervisor 

Evaluation Procedures:  Student workers are evaluated on a continuing basis  

Scope: Uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to teach academic subjects such as Accounting, Mathematics, Chemistry, Spanish, and Computer Programming to student athletes requiring academic improvement and provides assistance to increase students understanding of a specific subject, developing basic skills and study skills.

Responsibilities:

• Provide academic support during assigned hours
• Assist with homework. Explain concepts in a manner that students understand.
• Observe and evaluate students work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement.
• Develop a full working knowledge of academic skills development materials and strategies
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs, abilities and interests.
• Motivate and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Current student enrolled at McDaniel College
• Strong GPA in college coursework
• Strong Knowledge of Academic subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science or other subjects as required based on assigned program.
• Effective learning techniques.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Flexibility with regard to work environment.
• Openness to training and skills development.
• Ability to work with students one-on-one and in small groups.
• Availability to work at least 6 hours per week during academic year.
