Summer Start Learning Assistants work with incoming freshman student-athletes during NC State’s summer bridge program, Summer Start. Learning assistants will be paired with a full-time learning specialist and will assist freshman student-athletes in building academic skills, with an emphasize on writing and critical thinking, to help prepare them for their first full-time college semester. Learning assistants should be willing and able to do the following: -Assist student-athletes with the development of academic skills, particularly reading, writing, analysis, and critical thinking; -Assist student-athletes with the transition to college-level work; -Work with assigned learning specialist to plan sessions, identify students’ strengths and weaknesses, and submit daily reports; -Participate in required 2-day training; -Complete all job duties while adhering to academic and professional integrity

Requirements and Preferences
Approximately Monday-Friday, 9:30am-2:00pm, Sunday, 6:00-8:00 pm (June 23rd-August 3rd)
-Excellent oral and written communication skills -Ability to teach or tutor writing as it relates to college-level essays -Ability to teach or tutor learning strategies and study skills -Ability to work with students of diverse academic backgrounds -Ability to tutor or teach in small groups
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with student-athletes, have experience teaching writing or English, or who express a desire to go into teaching.
