Position Description:
The University of Louisville Athletic Department seeks candidates for a Sports Nutrition Fellow position to assist with providing nutritional support services to the University of Louisville Football student-athletes for the 2024 Season.
The Sports Nutrition Fellow will collaborate with the Sports Dietitian for Football to assist student-athletes in achieving optimal athletic performance. Primary responsibilities include performance nutrition education, one-on-one counseling for individual goals and return to play, and food service operations. The Sports Nutrition Fellow will be required to work a non-standard workweek, including some nights, weekends, and holidays and travel with the team as needed for away games.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in nutrition education for athletes and contribute to culture of accountability.
Assist in monitoring body weights and body composition analysis.
Act as a nutrition resource for coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, and other staff, as needed.
Provide medical nutrition therapy, as needed, to help manage and treat medical conditions including but not limited to: type 1 diabetes, food allergies, bone mineral disturbances, GI complaints, iron depletion, iron-deficiencies, amenorrhea, gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, etc.
Assist in fueling and hydration strategies for lifts, practices, and games (at home and on road)
Manage inventory and day to day food operations of weight room fueling station, snack room, dining area, catering kitchen, and travel trunks.
Order supplies for fueling station and snack room.
Support student workforce with daily assigned tasks.
Assist with catering vendors for team meals/snacks.
Assist with Thornton’s Dining Center when football is present.
Check travel meals at hotel when necessary and monitor fueling for performance.
Coordinate cleaning tasks and food safety management.
Qualified Candidates Must: Have a background and strong interest in sports nutrition and Be Registered Dietitian (RD) Credentialing Examination Eligible and Pass Exam within 3 months of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Dietitian (RD) with active status through the Commission on Dietetics Registration and licensed Dietitian in the State of Kentucky.
Ability to work a non-standard workweek, including some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Strong communication (oral and written), organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
Knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications (especially Microsoft Office).
Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.
Knowledge of sports nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, eating disorders/disordered eating, and motivational interviewing.
Ability to work in a group and/or collaborate with other departments within the Athletic Department.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and demonstrate follow-through with work tasks.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, intense, and dynamic environment (demonstrate flexibility and adaptability).
