Summary of Position: The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach by coaching student
athletes, recruiting, monitoring student athlete academic progress, scheduling, managing travel and
overseeing the discipline, conduct, and image of the student athlete as outlined in the TMCC Athletic
Handbook.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
Personal Contacts: Regular contact with student athletes, head coach and athletic director.

Supervision Received: Supervised by the Men’s Head Coach.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Working knowledge of sport rules and the ability to teach critical skills, regulations and competitive

strategies and training techniques.
Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for
intercollegiate athletics.
Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with regulations.
Coach team members individually and in groups. May manage a designated skill development area or
group of positions.
Demonstrate game techniques.
In the absence of the head coach, will assume all head coach’s responsibilities.
Assist the Head Coach with recruitment of players. The Assistant coach’s compensation is directly tied to
their ability to recruit a minimum of eight players for the basketball team at TMCC. If recruitment is not
sufficient, the assistant coaches will not be compensated.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Coaching experience at the high school or junior college level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• College level or above playing experience.
• Previous basketball player for Turtle Mountain Community College.
• Have or able to maintain a valid ND driver’s license.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Proper training techniques in the treatment and prevention of injuries.
• Proven positive attitude towards work and people.
