The Burbidge Athletics Academic Center is seeking qualified Academic Mentors to work with student-athletes. Mentors will work with an assigned caseload of student-athletes during a set schedule of work hours every week. Mentors will assist student-athletes with continued academic skill development, accountability, and goal setting. They will help develop support plans to assist with student success.
Assist student-athletes with continued higher education skill development including the following: time management, writing, reading, organizational, communication, study, test preparation, etc Develop Support plans based on student needs Meet with students once or twice per week during designated times to create task sheets and work on skill development Generate weekly plans with athletes emphasizing both long-term and short-term goal setting Work with the mentor team to schedule subject-specific tutors if the need arises Generate reports following each mentor session to follow progress and accountability Utilize various computer programs as needed to track student progress This list of responsibilities is not intended to be all-encompassing
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher Ability to commit to an assigned work schedule of no more than 19 hours per week Skills: Strong communication skills Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and learning styles Ability to help student-athletes with skill-building/refining Ability to problem solve Ability to multitask Reliable and punctual Adaptable and cooperative Patient/caring/empathetic Strong level of integrity Ability to recognize skill deficiency and have an understanding of outside sources playing a role in deficiencies Organized Ability to keep records Ability to resolve conflicts The incumbent will be required to pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Background check Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
