Duties and Responsibilities (*denote essential functions)

1. * Assists with all aspects of NCAA Division I Women’s Water Polo Program, including student recruitment and development, on deck coaching, compliance with NCAA, Conference and University of Hawai i rules and regulations, student-athlete academic achievement, edit game film and scouting of opponents, fundraising, travel, and other duties assigned by the Head Coach.
2. *Assists and participates in practices and intercollegiate competitions. Teaches necessary skills from the basic fundamentals to the techniques and strategies of team play.
3. *Promotes and fosters a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members. Responsible for the conduct of team members both on and off the deck.
4. *Promotes and maintains an environment where the physical, mental, social and academic well-being of all student-athletes are a priority.
5. *Assists with identifying, evaluating, recruiting and selecting qualified prospects who have the ability to compete in the classroom and athletically. Actively seeks and encourages a diverse group of prospects and assist them through the application process. Works collaboratively with the Compliance, Student-Athlete Services and Academics staff to qualify and process prospects in a timely and efficient manner. Makes recurring contacts by phone, written correspondence, off-campus visits and evaluations, and coordination of campus visits as assigned by the Head Coach.
6. *Assists with overseeing the academic progress and success of student-athletes including promoting and maintaining an environment that encourages academic achievement as measured by academic eligibility, retention, and graduation.
7. *Participates in sports clinics, exhibitions, and camps as approved.
8. *Participates in fundraising, promotional, and public relation activities for the sports program.
9. *Videos and edits games as assigned by the coaching staff. Assist the Head Coach in scouting of opponents including the exchange and analysis of videotapes.
10. *Assists in coordinating all aspects of team travel. Effectively communicate with all travel agents, hotels, and car rental agencies.
11. *Orders and embroiders team gear in collaboration with the assigned equipment manager.
12. *Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
13. *Maintains collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the sports program.
14. *Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
15. *Knows, recognizes and complies with the laws, policies, rules and regulations governing the University of Hawai‘i and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if there are reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others, have occurred or will occur.
16. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Graduation from an accredited four year college or university;
2. One (1) year experience coaching water polo at the collegiate or university level; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
3. Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

6. Ability to work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and /or holiday hours as directed.

7. Ability to travel with the team as required.

8. Ability to work with all segments of the University of Hawai‘i community and general public.

9. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.

10. Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

11. First Aid, CPR and AED certification within 45 days of employment start date.

12. Lifeguard certification within 45 days of employment start date.

13. Computer, cell phone, and social media technology competency.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Division I water polo coaching experience
