Job Summary

Position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the basketball program at Coker University. Position assists with conducting practices, instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques, recruiting, monitoring academic progress and other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

1. Assists the Head Basketball coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
2. Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head Basketball coach.
3. Assesses player's skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head Basketball coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
4. Assists with determining game strategy.
5. Assists the head Basketball coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
6. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
7. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
8. Assists in the recruiting of prospective student-athletes.
9. Assists with the monitoring of the academic success of student-athletes.
10. Assists in the scouting of opposing teams.
11. Is committed to DEI.
12. Support and model the Coker University Service Standards.

Other Duties

1. Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
2. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Head Basketball Coach.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

Experience coaching basketball. The ability to drive a Coker vehicle, obtain NCAA clearance to recruit, and CPR/AED certification is required.
