General Responsibilities
The Women’s Athletic Recruiting and Academic Retention Specialist at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy plays a crucial role in identifying and attracting talented female athletes to the institution’s athletic programs, while also providing support to ensure their academic success and overall well-being. This position requires a unique blend of skills related to athletics, education, and student support. This position is responsible for recruiting, advising and supporting student-athletes to excel both in their chosen sports and in their academic endeavors. The primary goal is to attract high-caliber athletes to the institution’s women’s athletic programs while ensuring their academic success and retention throughout their college experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify and recruit talented female athletes to participate in the institution’s women’s athletic programs
Build relationships with high school coaches, athletic clubs and other organizations to scout potential recruits
Attend sporting events, tournaments and showcases to evaluate and engage with potential student-athletes
Coordinate campus visits and tours for prospective student-athletes
Willing to travel long distance to locations inside and outside of New England
Provide academic support to all student-athletes to ensure they meet their educational goals
Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty to address academic concerns and promote success
Monitor and track the academic progress of student-athletes, offering guidance and developing individualized academic plans for them
Establish a support system for student-athletes to help them navigate college challenges
Address any issues that may impact a student-athlete’s well-being and academic performance
Collaborate with campus resources such as counseling services, to provide comprehensive support

Coordinate with the Events Management department to oversee athletic camps on campus
Create analytical data based off each athletic camp, showcase or clinic
Attend home cage day events and perform event management duties as directed
Fulfill all other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Strong understanding of NCAA regulations related to recruitment and eligibility
Experience in recruiting and advising female student-athletes, preferably at the collegiate level
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the athletic events and recruiting efforts
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development and/or the modeling of inclusive behaviors.
Salary
$60,000 to $65,000 annually. The Academy offers generous benefits and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is exempt under the FLSA.
