JOB PURPOSE:  The Assistant Coach for Women’s Soccer assists the Head Coach in designated aspects of running the Women’s Soccer program.  Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, organizing goalkeeper training sessions to alight with team objectives, scouting opponents, recruiting as needed, implementing IDPs, video analysis, coaching ID Clinics and game preparation. The Assistant Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Pomona College, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), and the NCAA Division III.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Head Soccer Coach and Athletic Director, the Assistant Coach position will provide opportunities and responsibilities in the areas of athletic performance that include, but are not limited to:

• Strong administrative, interpersonal skills, and computer/technology skills.

• Appropriate certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, or willingness to complete certifications upon hire if working independently with student-athletes.

• Operate computers with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, docs) and associated professional software (such as Internet research and menu-driven databases). Demonstrate understanding of the use of equipment in assessing and improving department systems and processes to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.

• Demonstrate effective, accurate, and clear communication with excellent/strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills. Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of duties.

• Use strong organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and keen attention to detail.

ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT DUTIES AND OPPORTUNITIES:
 

Based on departmental need and individual availability, additional hours may be available in the following areas.

Winter and Spring Season Only:

• Serve as home contest manager.

• Work alongside the Assistant AD for Operations and Events.

• Opportunities to work alongside athletics communications.

• Assist with club sports.

Year-long Opportunities:  

• Assist with the oversight of the Athletic Performance Center

• Assist with the Center for Athletics, Recreation, and Wellness

• Serve on department committees

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required.

2. Licenses/Certificates : A valid driver’s license is required or an equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.

3. Experience : A minimum of 2 years of experience as a coach at the collegiate or professional level of athletics. Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience preferred. Experience in the recruitment of academically focused scholar-athletes is preferred. Capacity to positively interact with and support a culturally, ethnically, economically, and socially diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

REQUIRED HOURS AND ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefit-eligible position. The hourly rate for this role is $16.90 per hour, 15-20 hours per week, depending on the competitive season. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to, education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior role. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.
