Title: Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach

1. Reporting Relationship(s) 
   This position is directly supervised by the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach with overall supervision by the Director of Athletics.

 

1. Position Summary

This position assists the women’s volleyball head coach at practices, games, recruiting, team travel, public relations and all phases of the program as needed. Performs assistant coaching duties operating under the NCAA Division II bylaws and regulations.

Person will be required to become familiar with and adhere to Chaminade University policies, NCAA rules pertaining to institutional control and compliance, and the Pacific West Conference, and NCAA Division II philosophies. Person must be committed to a philosophy that emphasizes the pursuit of excellence in both academics and athletics.

1. Duties and Responsibilities
   Essential Functions

Coaching  (55% of work time)

a) Assists the head coach with teaching required skills to student-athletes during individual and team practices, training, and competition.

b) Maintain knowledge and rules of NCAA Division II and the PacWest Conference as it pertains to the sport.

c) Professional development via various means of educational resources.

 

Recruiting  (15% of work time)

a) Recruit student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending tournaments, home visits, phone calls, text messages, letters, and contact with coaches, parents. Reviewing films and any other form of analysis to evaluate prospects.

b) Assist in planning and organization of recruiting visits (unofficial and official) to include transportation, housing, meals, campus tour, and workout sessions under NCAA guidelines.

c) Review countless player DVD's, YouTube, and other scouting or recruiting tools to evaluate talent and identify valid prospects for recruiting purposes.

 

Administrative and Promotional Duties  (25% of work time)

a) Assist with required compliance reports as needed.

b) Assist head coach at team meetings and fundraising activities.

c) Assist with team involvement in community service activities.

d) Assist with stats and record keeping tasks.

e) Help with equipment and uniform management.

f) Attend all the Chaminade athletic department meetings to include monthly required compliance continuing education sessions.

 

Other Duties  (5% of work time)

a) Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. 
• One year of volleyball coaching experience preferably on the collegiate level. 

Technical Skills:  

• Possess or have the ability to learn Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and especially VolleyMetrics and any other sports related computer programs.

   • The ability to multi-task and perform accurate, detail-oriented work
   • Ability to use various software programs needed to perform tasks as sports information director.
   • Computer proficiency i.e. Microsoft Office and ability to learn University system software.

2. Physical Requirements

Must be able to traverse the campus, stoop, bend, climb stairs, and lift approximately 50 lbs. for equipment and merchandise. Must be physically able to travel within Hawaii and the US Mainland for required PacWest Conference matches.  Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

1. Other Requirements

   • This is a part time, exempt position. Twenty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the NCAA-regulated practice and competition season, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required
   • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
   • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
