The Academic Advisor works with new and undeclared students to provide holistic advising services helping students matriculate to the university and providing support during their first year on campus resulting in retention of students. This position serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options and refers students to appropriate institutional resources. Advisors work to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. They also serve as a liaison to specific colleges and departments to ensure accurate information is provided to both the department and students. The advisor will be asked to represent the department at university events, and to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment.

ASSISTANT TRACK & FIELD COACH (50%)

The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach of Track and Field in the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, communication and administering of his/her program to achieve University and Department objectives. Goals and objectives are to be developed prior to the beginning of each season with the Head Coach. Exhibit behavior that enhances the respect for the student-athletes, the athletics program, the University, and yourself in the conduct of your professional responsibilities. You are required to assist in the direction and control of your program in accordance with NCAA, WIAC, and University rules and regulations. Violation of University, NCAA or Conference rules on the part of Athletic Department personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree required (or enrollment in a Master's degree program with graduation expected within 18 months of starting the position)
• Minimum of three years of academic advising or related experience
• Demonstration of excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft and EAB Navigate preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic Advising

• Assist students with program planning, general course selection, registration, and schedule review.
• Engage students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements.
• Refer students to appropriate campus resources which could support their success and engagement with the campus community.
• Counsel students on academic probation, receiving academic alerts, and/or are identified as being at risk to succeed.
• Maintain confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies.

Department Representation

• Participate in SOAR days, Warhawk Preview/Admitted Days, and other campus events by presenting about the services available in the AAEC.
• Coordinate with assigned college/departments to ensure AAEC staff are updated on curricular changes or opportunities.

Miscellaneous

• Serve on department, division, or university committees.
• Actively participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

General Administration of Program/Coaching

• Demonstrated and successful recruiting and development of collegiate athletes in horizontal jumps or throwing events.
• Adhere to all rules and guidelines of the NCAA, WIAC and University.
• Assist head coach to plan and direct the development of student-athletes in relation to general and specific skills necessary for successful competition.
• Adhere to all athletic training measures for the safety and welfare of student-athletes.
• Assist with management of intercollegiate athletics contests.
• Assist with instructing student-athletes in the principles and rules of the sport, WIAC and University policies.
• Schedule, prepare, and supervise all team practices, and travel related to their area of coaching.
• Attend departmental compliance staff meetings.
• Assist head coach to ensure the safety, maintenance and preparation of the playing and practice areas for all student-athletes.
• Assist with the monitoring of the academic progress of the student-athletes on your team ensuring that normal progress is made toward the attainment of the degree.

Recruiting

• Assist with recruitment and recommendation of high-level student-athletes to the University in accordance with the recruiting goals established by the head coach.
• Complete recruiting logs on a monthly basis.
• Interact with admissions personnel in the recruitment policies and procedures for the University.

Development

• Assist the head coach with fund raising projects needed to support program.
• Assist the head coach with support and promotion of sport.
• Assist with the total program support through Athletic Department activities and events.

Scholarly & Professional Activity

• Attend job-related clinics and conferences.
• Maintain current membership in professional organizations.
• Attend appropriate WIAC meetings in the absence of the head coach.

University & Community Services

• Serve on department and university committees as needed.
• Serve as a resource to the community in areas of expertise.
• Assist the head coach with the development of outreach activities which support and enhance the athletics program, individual sports, and university.

Miscellaneous

• Assume other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and by the Director of the Academic Advising & Exploration Center.
