Utah Valley University is seeking a part-time Academic Advisor in Athletics! The Academic Advisor provides academic and career advising services for students and advises students as they develop academic schedules appropriate for their educational goals. Creates, coordinates, and monitors individualized academic support services plans for at-risk student-athletes to help ensure retention and eligibility. Communicates the student-athletes’ progress and sends reports to appropriate coaching staffs, academic advisors, and the Director of Compliance detailing academic progress of assigned students.
Summary of Responsibilities
Creates, coordinates, and monitors individualized academic support services plans for at-risk student-athletes to helps ensure retention and eligibility. Communicates student-athletes’ progress and reports to athletics coaching staffs, academic advisors, and the Director of Compliance detailing academic performance.
Collaborates with athletics academic advisors on items such as course and major selection based on student academic goals and their individual strengths and weaknesses.
Oversees study hall for assigned students, including oversight of graduate student mentors and coordination of tutorial sessions.
Provides coordinated services for prospective students, current students, coaches, and administrators ensuring the highest levels of customer service and availability.
Serves as member of the Academic Improvement Team to help acquire information for academic reports, and creates and implements academic improvement plans as necessary.
Collaborates with the Office of Disability Services to identify students with learning needs, and assists with the process of obtaining accommodations.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience related to Summary of Duties totaling five years.

Knowledge
Knowledge of university course schedules, course curriculum, and degree requirements.
Knowledge of student advisement methods and techniques (monitoring students’ classes, scheduling, academic progress and registration).
Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules relating to intercollegiate athletic programs, academic advisement, and student-athlete academic eligibility.
Knowledge and understanding of drug education and student-athlete wellness.
Knowledge of instructional strategies, techniques, and study skills.
Knowledge of student development and the ability to assist students in developing effective academic plans and career and life goals.
Knowledge of student advising and teaching laws and techniques including content, curriculum, and graduation requirements specific to the academic major, department or school, and the ability to anticipate department and student needs.
