The Burbidge Athletics Academic Center, a department within Intercollegiate Athletics, is seeking a qualified Learning Specialist to work with the sport of Football. In collaboration with the Director of Football Academics and team of Football Learning Specialists, this position specializes in working with identified student-athletes, including student-athletes with identified learning disabilities. Candidates for the position will ensure that goals and objectives are met with strict adherence to University of Utah, Conference, and
NCAA
rules and regulations. The Learning Specialist position will be charged with enhancing the academic success and retention of student-athletes at the University of Utah. Candidates will be considered for the Lead Learning Specialist position pending qualifications. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

The following are the major/essential functions and duties of the Learning Specialist position:
Develop, coordinate and implement individualized academic support plans for identified student-athletes, including the assessment and evaluation of individual student-athletes to identify learning needs and additional academic support;
Conduct one-on-one and/or group academic meetings with assigned caseload of student-athletes emphasizing teaching and learning strategies while addressing academic concerns as needed;
Provide individualized instruction in areas requiring academic enhancement and development (i.e. reading comprehension, writing, study skills);
Collaborate with the Director of Football Academics on course and major selection based on strengths, weaknesses, and identified goals;
Collaborate with other Learning Specialists on a weekly basis in order to continually evaluate and grow Learning Support Services for all student-athletes;
Oversee required study hall for assigned caseload of student-athletes;
Assist the Tutorial Program Coordinator in coordinating tutorial support for assigned caseload of student-athletes;
Work in conjunction with the Director of Psychology & Wellness as well as members of the Center for Disability & Access to identify student-athletes with learning needs while assisting in the process of obtaining accommodations where permitted;
Work as an integral team member of a progressive Athletics Academic Services team to provide industry leading and coordinated support services for all student-athletes;
Oversee the daily completion of academic reports for football student-athletes to be shared with the Director of Football Academics, the Football Academic Coordinator, and football coaches detailing daily academic progress;
Maintain student-athlete files and records while collecting necessary data and documenting interactions with student-athletes;
When required, meet with prospects and parents during on-campus recruiting visits to discuss and review the philosophy of athletics academic support services;
Utilize a variety of programming to assist in daily job duties (i.e. TeamWorks, GradesFirst, Box, Civitas, etc);

A Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency required. Demonstrated ability to interact and relate to student-athletes while communicating both clearly and effectively. Previous experience in counseling, education, or teaching is preferred.
