Job Summary

Under the general supervision and guidance of the Sr. Associate AD for Academic Services, the Director of Football Academics will oversee and manage all aspects of academic support services for football student-athletes. The Director will serve as the primary athletics academic advisor while providing a high level of transformative academic support service to a diverse team of football student-athletes. The Director will monitor and report all facets of academic progress, NCAA eligibility, PTD, and progress toward graduation for all football student-athletes. The Director will exhibit open and ongoing communication with student-athletes, the football academic advisor, the academic services team, and university faculty and staff. Supervision of a full-time Academic Advisor and collaboration with three full-time Learning Specialists and an intern working with football student-athletes, will also be required. A thorough understanding of the University of Utah, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations is required. Responsibilities

Provide industry-leading academic support services to all football student-athletes Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Burbidge Athletics Academic Center and oversight of a structured study hall program – both time-based and objective-based Direct football student-athletes throughout the priority advisement process, registration, and degree declaration – in conjunction with major college advisors – culminating in successful and timely graduation Serve as an academic guide to all new football student-athletes (freshmen and transfers) while scheduling regular academic support appointments, determine and monitor the completion of weekly academic objectives Meet regularly with identified football student-athletes Supervision of a full-time Academic Advisor working with football student-athletes Collaborate with three full-time learning specialists and an intern working specifically with football student-athletes Work closely with Athletics Sport Psychology and Wellness, the Center for Disability Services, and the Dean of Students Office when necessary Manage the compilation and timely dissemination of daily and weekly academic reports and updates Present pertinent information regularly at football academic meetings Monitor the academic progress of all football student-athletes as outlined by the University of Utah, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations specific to eligibility and certification Complete accurately and in a timely manner all eligibility check sheets and certification spreadsheets while actively participating in the NCAA certification process Assist the Registrar’s Office in the preparation of APR projections and final reports for submission to the NCAA Work closely and collaboratively with the Football Academic Coordinator Participate and contribute to the development of interns within the academic department Additional duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate AD for Academic Services This job description is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Two years of direct academic advising experience Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling & Advisement, or related field; a minimum five years of experience as an athletics academic advisor providing academic support to football student-athletes; demonstrated experience working with academically under-prepared student-athletes at the NCAA Division I level; a solid understanding of NCAA rules and regulations specific to eligibility; a proficiency with NCAA Bylaw 14.
