Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services in providing proactive academic support for LMU student- athletes. This position will utilize specific learning strategies in support of at-risk student athletes in their endeavor to improve and/or enhance their study skills in an educational environment. This position will work with assigned students on an individual and/or small group basis to teach learning strategies, study skills, and assist student athletes in completing their academic coursework.
Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Monitor and provide academic support to student-athletes in completing academic coursework throughout the semester. Document and report weekly student-athlete progress to Assistant Athletics Director, Academic Coordinator, respective coaches, and sport supervisors. 25%
Develop specific programs and individual learning plans to meet the needs of at risk students. 20%
Present programs to the student-athlete population in the area of study skills and time management techniques. 10%
Serve as the liaison to the Academic Resource Center and Disability Support Services. In addition will be the initial contact for any student who needs to be assessed for a Learning Disability. 10%
Will be responsible for assessments involving Student-Athlete Services and the Athletics Department. Examples include a yearly assessment of Student-Athlete Services, student surveys and assessments on various programs and support, and the senior exit interview/assessment. 15%
Assist coaches in the recruiting process by discussing the academic side of student life with prospective student athletes’ campus visits. 5%
In addition to working with at-risk student-athletes, will provide academic advice to designated teams assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Performance. 5%
Represent LMU within the Athletics community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required. 5%
Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Performance. 5%

Requisite Qualifications
Typically a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
Minimum 2 years academic counseling experience in progressively responsible positions.
Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: NCAA Division l rules and regulations and the ability to comprehend collegiate educational guidelines and standards.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.
Demonstrated computer competency with word processing systems and the ability to student records system.
