This would include acupuncture treatment technique involving stimulation of points and combinations of points on the body surface by the insertion of acupuncture needles, manual therapies to the skin and soft tissues, and health education.
Assessment may occur through a multidisciplinary collaboration involving a range of methods including history and observational and tactile assessments. The acupuncturist may also refer a patient to an appropriate specialist or co-manage with other healthcare providers. The acupuncturist is considered to be a member of the Athletic Medicine team.
Minimum Education:
• Master’s of Science Degree in Acupuncture, Oriental medicine or Traditional Chinese Medicine and/or Completion of a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and approved by the California Acupuncture Board.
Minimum Experience/Knowledge:
• Required: 2 years of direct patient care experience in acupuncture to college or professional athletes.
• Experience in medical administration of clinical program. Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, therapy and recovery.
• Familiarity with advancements in medical technology and current know-how. Ability to travel and work nights and weekends.
• Preferred: 5 years’ experience
Required License/Certification:
• California Acupuncturist License - Department of Consumer Affairs Acupuncture Board NPI number
• BLS – Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association

• Fire and Safety Certification: If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
